Bio

Carmen is a practicing writer of essay, literary fiction, and creative non-fiction.

Their time at the University of Louisville was bifurcated between Philosophy in the Humanities and Creative Writing.

In that time, they served as a verse editor for Miracle Monocle (2024), reviewed Christopher Kennedy's The Strange God Who Makes Us, and published in The Ripple Effect (2026).

Their recent work moves past literary tradition through educational advocacy and community-based research, including academic tutoring, directing action for foster youth at the University of Louisville with Fostering Attainment Through Educational Supports (FATES), applied research toward social justice with support from the Muhammad Ali Institute, and sustainable action as a Kroger Scholar.

Across those roles, their focus stays consistent: careful writing, thoughtful collaboration, and projects that connect literature to real communities.
